The role of science and technology in the development of the world is unmistakable. It would not be wrong to say that Science and Technology, in fact, triggered the Industrial Revolution in Europe, which later on laid far reaching effects in almost all parts of the world. Today, Pakistan beset with a large number of problems and the country is shaking amongst the waves of uncertainty. Science is the only available option to Pakistan for holding a niche in the comity of nations. Pakistan has recently hosted 15th General Assembly Meeting of the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) in Islamabad on 31 May 2016. The President of Pakistan Mr. Mamnoon Hussain opened the 15th session of COMSTECH General Assembly. In his speech he stressed on the need for increasing the budget for research and development and investing in producing high quality scientists. The Coordinator General of COMSTECH, Dr. Shaukat Hameed, the Federal Minister for Science and Technology of Pakistan, Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain and the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ali also addressed the inaugural session. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ali reviewed some of the projects and programs supported by IDB in the fields of science, health and education stressing that it gives utmost importance to the advancement of science and technology in the member states.
